Room 1
Share tea. Look through an album of family photographs assembled by the Advisory Circle of Indigenous women and project participants. Listen to the voices of Indigenous women and extended family as they reconnect through water, fish, and story. The main exhibition space consists of several elements:
1) A kitchen table and chairs, with tea being served by gallery attendants and project participants. The dishes and furniture have been contributed by island families. A photo album is on the table featuring family images and documentation of the project production process and gathering history.
2) Soundscapes by Richard Wilson bring the voices of the Advisory Circle and collaborators into the room––laughter, conversation, stories, and food sharing––and highlights static and interference in the form of crashing waves, crackling fire, and inaudible speech and language as central to this collective experience.
3) Fishing nets, floats, and lines have been adorned with family photographs and images of the gatherings of the Advisory Circle above Georgeson Bay, Active Pass, and Porlier Pass.
